Abstract

1. The oxidation-reduction system; benzoyl peroxide-para-tolyloxymethyl sulfone-iron salts, initiates telomerization of ethylene by carbon tetrachloride at 500° and 59 atm; up to 50% conversion of CC14 is achieved, in 4 h in the absence of dehydrochlorination during the reaction. The addition of methanol and CuCl2 · 2H2O eliminates the induction period but reduces the conversion of CCl4. 2. At the same C2H4 ∶ CCl4 ratio, in the case of initiation of telomerization by the system benzoyl peroxidepara-tolyloxymethyl sulfone-iron salts, the reaction product contains more 1,1,1,3-tetrachloropropane in comparison with the product of telomerization initiated by benzoyl peroxide.
