Abstract

The fifth season of excavations at Tell es-Sacidiyeh took place in March—April, 1990. This was an interim season with the principal aim of linking together the two main excavation areas, AA and EE, on the Upper Tell. This was achieved at both the stratum V and stratum VII levels, and interesting remains were also encountered relating to stratum III (Persian period) and stratum II (Hellenistic). Very little work was undertaken on the Lower Tell, except for the continuation of a single 5-metre square begun in the 1989 season (BB 700). This area produced the well-preserved remains of an Early Bronze II house, together with a fine assemblage of pottery vessels.
