Abstract
The advent of high power geostationary satellites with large deployable antennae has opened new vistas for the application of direct satellite receivers. The Department of Space will conduct the Satellite Instructional Television Experiment using the Applications Technology Satellite-F to be launched by National Aeronautics and Space Administration. In this paper the detailed systems analysis using the parameters of ATS-F is presented. This analysis is used as the basis for establishing the design approach for the satellite receiver. The functional block diagram of the envisaged satellite TV receiver is given and the design objectives for the individual blocks are presented. The probable components cost of such a receiver is also given.
