Abstract

Although most Soviet citizens watch television several hours a day, the poor quality of most political broadcasts, plus the availability in most cities of more than one channel, make it difficult to use television for political socialization purposes. Instead, it is basically a vehicle for light entertainment. The author is Research Fellow at the Russian Research Center, Harvard University, and Associate Professor of Government and Foreign Affairs at the University of Virginia (on leave, 1974-1976).
