Abstract

The analysis of multibeam bathymetry, imagery and geophysical data, acquired during the ZoNéCo 4 cruise (October 1996, on board L'Atalante) on the Lord Howe Rise, gives us evidence on two major events. One erosional phase of the ridge is due to its emersion, from the Upper Eocene and Middle Oligocene. This phase is synchroneous with the Upper Eocene obduction of the New Caledonian ophiolites. One volcanic phase affects the Lord Howe Rise from the Upper Oligocene up to the end of the subsidence of the ridge.
