Abstract

A halecomorph fish is described for the first time from the Lower Cretaceous of the Araripe Basin, northeast Brazil. This new material is identified as a new genus and a new species, Placidichthys bidorsalis. This taxon shares a number of synapomorphies with the Ionoscopiformes, but its position within this clade is still uncertain.
