Abstract
Advances in information and communication technology (ICT) over recent decades have had significant impacts on business in most fields. This is particularly true within the business event industry, where the introduction of information technology has underpinned enhanced relationships between event organisers and their delegates as well other stakeholders. Increasing competition in the industry and changing delegate expectations have pressured event organisers to find ways to more effectively use technologies within business events. Therefore, understanding the role of each form of technology is a key way for event organisers to maximise their capacity and to enhance the overall delegate experience. This chapter presents a historical timeline of the development of information and communication technology in business events, explains some of the key ICTs and explores how these technologies can help event organisers enhance the delegate experience. Additionally, the future of ICT in business events is provided and some of the challenges that might be faced in using these technologies are discussed.
