Abstract

THIS PAPER DESCRIBES the sorry history of technological innovation in education and identifies a flawed economic model of the university as the source of much misunderstanding and disappointment about failed innovations. A more realistic view of the university is presented, followed by a discussion of the sorts of innovations that are possible and have taken root. Finally, there is a brief discussion of other educational markets that are more receptive of technological innovation.
