Abstract

Renewable energy is promising in reducing global warming. The microgrid system has solar panel, wind turbine, battery storage and Power to hydrogen to power components. The technical and economic analysis has been conducted for different power system combination. The hydrogen as the energy storage medium is gaining widespread interest globally. Hydrogen storage systems can utilize and store the excess renewable energy generated which otherwise might be curtailed. Four scenarios have been reviewed for a 25 years project lifetime in order to choose the most optimal system components to meet the electric load. The HOMER Pro microgrid simulation software has been used to design the power generation system and analyze the system economic cost and gases emissions for the proposed scenarios. HOMER Pro simulation results show that the microgrid renewable energy with battery and hydrogen storage system that operate in grid-connected mode has the minimum net present cost and the lowest levelized cost of energy. The Proposed system has the potential to reduce the dependency on fossil fuels and promote renewable energies penetration into power grid and accelerate decarbonization.
