Abstract

AbstractThe behaviour of an extra low interstitial ferritic stainless steel (superferritic stainless steel) was investigated in various corrosive media: inorganic and organic acid solutions, sweet wines, wines with increased acid content, detergents, and other industrial media. A large number of tests were pelformed to determine the advantages of superferritic stainless steel, and to explore the possibility of substituting expensive austenitic stainless steels by cheaper superferritic steels. Tests showed that a superferritic stainless steel (15-16%Cr, C + N up to 350 ppm), is suitable for household use, wine fermentation and· storage, and in mild industrial corrosive media.
