Abstract

Conducting polymers exhibit ion exchanger properties evoked by charging and discharging processes. The ion-exchange behaviour of electrochemically and chemically prepared polypyrrole (PPy) was investigated using electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) and ion-selective electrodes. An ion-exchanger electrode was prepared and tested in a laboratory loop considering the application of PPy as an electrochemically switchable ion-exchanger for water treatment.
