Abstract

The article deals with the problem of teaching tolerance as the basis of effective cross-cultural communication. In our opinion one of the main social institutions contributing to the formation of citizenship and tolerance in Russian society is education. Education from a very young age of tolerance as a new type of social relationship and the basis of effective intercultural communication is an important social task. We conducted the investigation of the level of tolerance among students in the class, contained similar questions for students, teachers, and parents, adapted according to the age of the respondents. The questionnaires used to determine the self-esteem of tolerance of students and teachers also contained similar questions. We made the conclusion that schoolchildren participating in classes on the development of tolerance will be able to become active participants in intercultural communications and carriers of ideas of tolerance and effective intercultural communications in the future.
