Abstract

Two instructional strategies, the use of multimedia and the use of discussion groups, are suggested for creating an effective learning environment within a large lecture course. After describing the conceptual model of communication on which these teaching methods are based, the authors explain and cite examples of the uses and functions of multimedia and explain how, with appropriate coordination, the use of discussion groups enhances communication and gives students the opportunity to participate actively in classroom learning regardless of class size.
