Abstract

A renowned photojournalist at The Washington Post and now a professor of visual communication at West Virginia University, Lois Raimondo finds fresh ways to maintain the tradition of cross-cultural exploration, immersion, and understanding she adopted as a graduate student. Much as her graduate advisor forced her to be aware of both her comforts and discomforts, her filters of awareness, and her degrees of difference as she traveled to China for the first time more than 20 years ago, Raimondo teaches her students to open their eyes, ears, and apertures to delve into the wonderful world of light and shadow where nuance plays.
