Abstract

The research is done within the framework of an intercultural approach to teaching English as a foreign language. The article emphasizes the need for teaching idioms to develop intercultural communicative competence. The relevance of the study is determined by the increasing role of blended learning in the modern educational process. The purpose of the study is to consider some online resources from the point of view of their use in teaching English idioms. The descriptive method and the method of comparative analysis were used in the study. The research substantiates the disadvantages of the translation method of semantization of idioms at the introductory level and explains why the non-translation method is the most suitable for introducing new idiomatic units. The article discusses Quizlet, Online Test Pad, Socrative, Google Slides, and UDOBA. The study showed which of these resources are most preferable at the stage of familiarization with idioms, at the stage of their first-time drilling, as well as at the stage of development of skills to use idioms in speech. The article presents some exercises developed by the authors for each stage of work on idioms. The research provides conclusions concerning the effective usage of the above-mentioned resources in the process of teaching English idioms.
