Abstract
Faculty exchange programs between American universities and Chinese universities are popular. In the recent years these programs aimed at promoting the academic communication between two countries. A faculty exchange program was introduced by Purdue University Calumet (PUC), USA and Southeast University (SEU), China in 2008. Both universities offer similar degree programs for undergraduate students majoring in computer information technology (IT) and computer science (CS). The course taught assumes no experience in computer programming [2,4]. From the perspective of the Chinese instructor who was responsible for teaching the course during the 2009-2010 academic year at PUC, it appears that there are many different facets in the education and teaching modes between these two universities.The purpose of this paper is to identify and contrast learning styles and needs of students from different cultures in order to better facilitate teaching and learning in both IT and CS programs.
