Abstract

A study analysing the pubescence pattern of leaflets, branchlets and bracts, leaflet size and shape, leaflet apex shape, number of leaflets per leaf, leaflet phyllotaxy, flower size, fruit size and shape, pollinic tetrad size, and exine sculpture pattern of the genusMagonia St. Hil. proved that distinction between the two speciesM. glabrata St. Hil. andM. pubescens St. Hil. is not possible because of the continuous gradient of these characteristics. The results led to the conclusion that the genusMagonia is monospecific, and it was decided that the valid name should beMagonia pubescens St. Hil., of which the nameMagonia glabrata St. Hil. is now a synonym.
