Abstract

Tatsundo Yamamoto, a former professor at the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS) and a leading figure in the Japanese space science community, passed away on February 20,1998, due to lymph cancer. He was only 41 years old.Yamamoto was born in Tokyo on April 10, 1956. He obtained his B.A. in 1979 and his Ph.D. in geophysics from the University of Tokyo in 1984. In 1992, after spending 6 years as an assistant professor in the Geophysics Department of the Faculty of Science at the University of Tokyo, he moved to ISAS as an associate professor in the Space Plasma Division. He was promoted to full professor in 1996.
