Abstract

Objective To carry out the targeted surveillance and continuous quality improvement of catheterrelated bloodstream infection (CRBSI) in patients in ICU to reduce CRBSI rate of infection. Methods The targeted monitoring samples of CRBSI with stratified sampling method were chosen from ICU in four hospitals.Continuous quality improvement (CQI) methods of design and implementation were used to improve the retention of central venous catheter (CVC and PICC) CRBSI infection prevention and control processes. Then the CRBSI incidence before and after CQI were compared.Result After the implementation of CQI,the average CRBSI rate in the four hospitals decreased significantly from 4.52cases / 1,000 catheter-days to 2.39 cases / 1,000 catheter-days; Different catheter parts of CRBS1 rate declined; femoral vein catheter CRBSI rate decreased from CQI 7.52 cases / 1,000 catheter-days to 2.15/1000 catheter-days after CQI.Conclusion Carrying out the targeted surveillance of nosocomial infection with CQI can effectively reduce CRBSI incidence.
