Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of continuous quality improvement (CQI) in reducing catheter-related blood stream infection (CRBSI) in patients taking hemodialysis. Methods The incidence of CRBSI in the patients taking maintenance hemodialysis at our hospital from 2015 to 2017 was investigated; PDCA circulation method management was carried out. By monitoring the number of cases of catheter infection in the patients taking hemodialysis at our department, the related factors of infection were analyzed, the problems were found in time, and measures for continuous improvement were taken. The incidences of CRBSI before and after PDCA were compared. Results After 2 years’ application of PDCA circulation, the infection rate decreased from 13.19% to 3.45%, and was decreasing. Conclusion CQI can reduce the incidence of CRBSI and is worth for clinical application. Key words: Hemodialysis; Catheter-related blood stream infection; Continuous quality improvement
