Abstract
Triple arthrodesis was performed in five feet of four patients with painful fixed pes planovalgus deformity and gross dorsolateral subluxation of the talonavicular joint. Partial resection of the talar head in the early intraoperative stages facilitated reduction of the deformity. The study group consisted of four men and one woman, average age 67.5 years (range 55–82 years). The patients were assessed using the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) clinical rating system of the ankle and hindfoot. Average preoperative hindfoot and midfoot scores improved from 14.8 and 20 to 77 and 80.5 postoperatively. All the patients were pleased with the results of surgery in terms of alleviation of pain, improved function and the cosmetic appearance of their feet.
