In this issue of Cell Host & Microbe, Zhang etal. use a sepsis mouse model to show that macrophage-specific release of coagulation factor F3 depends on pathogen detection and responses mediated by TMEM173/STING. The therapeutic power of targeting TMEM173/STING-F3 is evident in mice, but will it penetrate the sepsis bedside?
