Abstract

In 2017, the Ministry Education of Malaysia has replaced the Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Menengah (KSSM) with new syllabus, namely Kurikulum Bersepadu Sekolah Menengah (KBSM). The objective is to cultivate interest of student in lifelong learning. To realize this goal, teachers need to foster reading interest among students. However, there is still a lack of student involvement in the teaching process and creates a boring and uninteresting teaching atmosphere. Therefore, this study aimed at identifying the mastery level of students and teachers in learning and teaching (Pdpc) classical Chinese poetry. This study is a part of a qualitative research that was conducted with five students and five teachers from secondary schools in Selangor. The findings of this study showed that the level of mastery of teachers and students in learning and teaching (Pdpc) in classical Chinese poetry is not satisfactory. Hence, the Ministry of Education Malaysia should provide workshops or courses that related to the exposition of a variety of pedagogy on classical Chinese poetry. In conclusion, teachers have the responsibility to improve the level of knowledge and teaching techniques of classical Chinese poetry so that learning and teaching (Pdpc) can be implemented effectively.
