Abstract
The Orlando Project -- formally titled An Integrated History of Women's Writing in the British Isles -- is a five-year project approaching the end of its second year. Our name derives from Virginia Woolf's fantastic narrative of the writer through several centuries of British history. We are employing computing technology in a number of innovative ways, integrating the literary research with computing methodology at every stage. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the project's intellectual aims.
