Abstract

It is shown that in incommensurate systems not only ${T}_{1}$ but also ${T}_{2}$ and the adiabatic homogeneous linewidth vary over the incommensurate frequency distribution. This variation may yield important information on the spectrum of the phason and amplitudon excitations. The experimentally observed variation of ${T}_{2}$ of the $^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ 1/2\ensuremath{\rightarrow}-1/2 transition lines in ${\mathrm{Rb}}_{2}$${\mathrm{ZnCl}}_{4}$ over the incommensurate inhomogeneous line shapes agrees with the theoretical prediction.
