Abstract
The study of models and systems for increasing energy efficiency in the transport sector and development up to 2050 is of strategic importance for the Bulgarian economy. The role and impact of different electricity supply models are examined in detail, in particular the role of energy storage systems and their evolution in the transport sector. Models and scenarios are explored to investigate the impact of the deployment of energy storage systems as well as the contribution in the integration of variable renewable energy in the electricity system. Approaches are used to model hourly transport-energy costs based on five scenarios that represent possible solutions to provide the necessary energy supply in the sector in the long run.
