Abstract
This review is focused on the synthetic strategies, structures and properties of few mixed valence trinuclear manganese(II/III) complexes with some Schiff base ligands. Few methods were applied by the researchers for the preparation of these mixed valence complexes. Aerial oxidation of manganese(II) to manganese(III) was identified as one of the important tools for such syntheses as manganese(II) Schiff bases complexes are air sensitive and easily oxidized to manganese(III) complexes. However, fragmentation of the mixed valence manganese(II/III) precursor followed by structural rearrangement was also identified as another synthetic route. Several properties like magnetic, DNA-binding, anti-proliferative, anti-microbial and catecholase-like activities, investigated by different groups are also highlighted in this review. The less explored areas of potential applications of these mixed valence complexes are also discussed.
