Abstract

The stable complexes of VO(IV), Cr(III), Mn(III), Fe(III), MoO2(VI), and WO2(VI), with an unsymmetrical tetradentate Schiff base ligand derived from 2-hydroxy-5-methylacetophenone, 2-hydroxy-5-chloroacetophenone and carbohydrazide were synthesized and characterized by the elemental analysis, UV-Vis and IR spectroscopy, magnetic measurements and thermal analysis. The VO(IV) and Mn(III) complexes were tested for the catalytic oxidation of styrene. The conversion of styrene increases with use of VO(IV) catalyst and decreases with use of Mn(III) catalyst.
