Abstract

Phosphors TiO2:0.01Eu3+ were synthesized by sol–gel technology with calcination under various temperatures. Red emission with a maximum of 613nm is observed upon 465nm excitation. The excitation band just overlaps the emission band of conventional blue light-emitting diode (LED) chip, which indicates that the phosphor has potential application in white LED. The crystalline structure and lattice parameters were investigated by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Rietveld refinement. The luminescence mechanism is explained simply in terms of the host crystal structure.
