Abstract

A new mercury(II) complex [Me2NC6H4HgS(S)COMe] (1) was synthesized and characterized by elemental anaylsis, FT-IR, and 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The structure of complex (1) has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction and proved to have a linear coordination geometry around the metal ion with Hg(S2COMe) being in S,S conformation. Intramolecular Hg···S secondary bond resulting in chelation [3.113 (1) Å], while intermolecular Hg···S interactions in the 3.265–3.740 Å range were also observed to form zig-zag supramolecular tapes. In addition, these supramolecular arrays are moreover connected by C-H···S, C-H···O, and C-H···π intermolecular interactions, consolidating a 3D network.
