Abstract

Hydroxy quinolin-2yl-methyl) thiourea ligand (HTF) was synthesized from 8-hydroxyquinoline and thiourea with formaldehyde by condensation method in N,N-dimethyl foramide medium. The metal complexes Zn(II), Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) were prepared using the 1-(8-hydroxy quinolin-2yl-methyl) thiourea as ligand. The ligand and its metal complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-Visible, cyclic voltammetry, Mass spectra and NMR spectroscopy. The ligand and its metal complexes possess antibacterial activity for certain bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomona aeruginosa and C.tropicalis.
