Abstract

A novel Cu (II) based coordination polymer [Cu(ipa)(py)3]n (1) (ipa = Isophthalic acid) has been synthesized from isophthalate and heterocyclic pyridine ligand and was well characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and Single Crystal X Ray Diffraction (SCXRD). Phase purity of the compound was analysed by powder X ray Diffraction (PXRD). The thermal behaviour of the compound was also studied by Thermogravimetric analysis (TG) which revealed the thermal stability of synthesised compound over a wide temperature range. SCXRD studies revealed the compound to be a 1D-coordination polymer with asymmetric unit belonging to monoclinic crystal system with space group P 2(1)/n [a = 9.1209(2), b = 15.3603(3), c = 16.0084(3), α = 90.00, β = 92.2250(10), γ = 90.00] and the central atom Cu (II) possessing a triagonal bipyramidal based geometry.
