Abstract
Electrochemical carboxylation of various vinyl bromides under an atmospheric pressure of carbon dioxide with a Pt cathode and an Mg anode gave the corresponding α,s-unsaturated carboxylic acids in high yields. In the case of alkyl-substituted vinyl bromides, efficient electrochemical carboxylation was achieved by the addition of 20 mol% of NiBr2•bpy. These facile carboxylations were successfully applied to a synthesis of the precursors of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents.
