Abstract

Several methods for the synthesis of tricarbonyl(η 6-quinaldine)chromium 4 were investigated. Whereas thermal and photochemical complexation gave exclusively pentacarbonyl(η 1-quinaldine)chromium 2, thermal and high pressure ligand exchange reactions employing (CH 3CN) 3Cr(CO) 3 and tricarbonyl(η 6-naphthaline)chromium 3 respectively gave only low conversions. However, the desired complex 4 was obtained by a novel low pressure ligand exchange reaction in 12% yield.
