Abstract

Ni, Ti and C powders were mixed as raw materials and put into molten salts in the temperature range from 760 to 850 °C to prepare TiC/NiTi composite particles. The reaction products were confirmed to be a mixture of TiC and NiTi particles. Differential scanning calorimetry showed that the synthesized NiTi particles demonstrated the reverse martensitic transformation behavior. The effect of the processing parameters and the mechanism of the reaction in molten salts are discussed.
