Abstract
A kind of polymer single-hole microjars (PsHmJs) was synthesized through a simple copolymerization-assembly method. Firstly, using mixed EtOH/H2O as solvent and azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator, two types of copolymer chains were synthesized, which afforded an amphiphilic copolymer of butyl acrylate – methacrylic acid – methyl methacrylate (PBMM), and a hydrophobic copolymer of butyl acrylate – styrene (PBSt), respectively. Secondly, above two copolymer chains assembled through phase separation, which afforded PsHmJs with nano-pylome. After being characterized by IR, SEM, TEM and EDX, its emulsifying performance and microencapsulation were investigated. Then, amoxicillin (AMX), a typical antimicrobial agent, was encapsulated into PsHmJs. The obtained AMX@PsHmJs presented an excellent antibacterial activity against the typical human pathogens, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. In summary, we found a simple strategy for synthesis of polymer microjars, which could be applied in microencapsulation for drug sustained release, catalysis, and removal of pollutants.
