Abstract

Cationic gemini surfactants containing positively charged amine-head groups attached to the hydrophobic tail groups. These gemini surfactants were synthesized by thequaternization reaction so they are called quaternary ammonium salts. These surfactants have efficiently shown effective surface-active properties like surface tensions, and CMCs. The cationic Gemini surfactant (C-16) in this research paper shows excellent surface-active properties against SLS (anionic Surfactant). The surface tension, foaming, and CMC of the Gemini surfactant for a percent concentration of 0.6% are 25.32 (mN/m), 18.7 cm, and 24.78 (mN/m) respectively. The synthesized Gemini surfactant shows nearly the same surface-active properties as that of SLS at the same percent concentration. This paper deals with the study of novel cationic surfactants and their application in fabric softeners because of the excellent surface-active properties shown by the synthesized surfactant.
