Abstract

The present paper describes the galvanic (electrochemical) synthesis of CdSe thin films on FTO (Fluorine doped tin oxide) coated glass substrates. The phase and surface microstructure of the coatings were characterized using X-Ray Diffraction(XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy(FESEM), Transmission electron microscopy(TEM). Elemental state composition of annealed CdSe films containing Pd was analysed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). Spectroscopic analyses were carried out with UV-Vis spectroscopy. Photocatalytic degradation study of toxic dyes and photoreduction of metal ions in solution were carried out with these films to ascertain their utility as an efficient material for wastewater treatment. Electrocatalytic behaviour was established by carrying out Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER) with these CdSe films as electrodes. Thermoelectric power (S) and thermal conductivity (Ƙ) measurements were performed to identify their potential as thermoelectric material.
