Abstract

Irradiation of stilbenes with amino alcohols or amino acetaldehyde diethyl acetal in the presence of p-dicyanobenzene gave the corresponding N-substituted 1,2-diarylethylamines in good yields. The resulting benzylamino alcohols and benzylamino acetals were treated with CH 3 SO 3 H and gaseous BF 3 , respectively, to give isoquinolines.
