Abstract

Metallic glass (MG)/metallic glass composites being CuA (Cu-base alloy)/10% NiA (Ni-base alloy) and NiA/10% CuA in weight were newly synthesized using gas atomization and spark plasma sintering (SPS). The composition of MG powders was Cu 54Ni 6Zr 22Ti 18 (CuA) and Ni 59Zr 15Ti 13Nb 7Si 3Sn 2Al 1 (NiA), which consisted of fully amorphous phases. T g and T x of both the powders were 716 K and 765 K for CuA, but 836 K and 890 K for NiA. The resultant phases of composites were Cu crystalline dispersed NiA matrix composites as well as NiA phase dispersed CuA matrix composites, depending on the SPS temperatures. The effect of the second phases embedded in the MG matrix on microstructure and mechanical properties is discussed.
