Abstract
Core-Shell SiO2/polystyrenic ionic liquids (PS-ILs) and the hollow PS-ILs nanospheres were prepared by aqueous surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) at ambient temperature. The gel permeation chromatography (GPC) analyses showed that the polymerization of this styrenic monomer in aqueous was living/controlled. The average particle size of the hollow nanospheres was around 200 nm and the shell thickness was ca.20 nm according to the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image. These hollow polymer nanospheres were expected to apply as nanoreactors.
