Abstract
We have investigated the synthesis conditions and the magnetic properties of a new U-type hexaferrite, Ba4Cu2Fe36O60(Cu2U). The samples were prepared by a conventional ceramic method. We used BaCO3, CuO, and α-Fe2O3 as starting materials. They were mixed in a desired proportion, Ba4+xCu2Fe36O60, and synthesized at 1050°C. We found that a 10 at.% excess of barium compared with the stoichiometric composition, is the best condition for the synthesis of the U-type hexaferrite. It is also found that the saturation magnetization at room temperature is 53.5 emu/g, and the Curie temperature is about 420°C.
