Abstract
A new ruthenium (IV) complex, [Ru(1,10-Phen)3](DMTD)2 H2O (1) (DMTD = 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole; 1,10-Phen = 1, 10-phenanthroline), was synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses and single-crystal X-ray analyses. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that the ruthenium atom in complex 1 is six-coordinated by six N atoms from three 1,10-Phen molecules in a distorted octahedral geometry. The interactions of the complex with herring sperm DNA has been studied by UV absorption titration and the ethidium bromide fluorescence displacement experiment. The results suggest that complex 1 bind to DNA by intercalation.
