Abstract

A series of Lanthanide complexes Nd(btc).4H2O, Eu(btc).3H2O, Tb(btc).3H2O, Er(btc).H2O, Yb(btc). 3H2O and heterometallic 3d-4f complexes, Nd(btc ) (Zn)(C2H5O)2.5H2O, Eu(btc)(Zn)(C2H5O)2.5H2O, Tb (btc)(Zn)(C2H5O)2.H2O, Er(btc)(Zn)(C2H5O)2.H2O, Yb (btc)(Zn)(C2H5O)2.H2O have been prepared by one step reaction of LnIII and LnIII-ZnII with 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (H3btc) by reflux method. All the synthesized complexes were incorporated into poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) matrix. All these complexes (1-10) have been characterized by elemental analyses (C,H,N), FT-IR-spectra, Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), fluorescence spectra and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) analyses to arrive at conclusion regarding their geometrical structure. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed the shape and size of the complexes, which were homogeneously dispersed in the PVP matrix. TEM results showed the complexes were of rod shaped with a mean diameter about 20 nm. The powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) patterns of 3d-4f complexes showed well defined crystalline peaks.
