Abstract
Synthesis of nanosized drug particles is of great interest in the development of new pharmaceutical products. Emergence of new resistant bacterial strains to current antibiotics has become a serious health issue. It raised the need to develop new antibacterial materials. SnO2 nanoparticles have exhibited a strong bacterial growth inhibiting character. SnO2 nanoparticles were prepared by co – precipitation method using EDTA as capping agent. With same capping agent, Ag - doped SnO2 nanoparticles were prepared by adding silver nitrate in the initial process of nanoparticle formation. The formation of Ag - doped SnO2 nanoparticles is confirmed by XRD analysis. The structural characterization of pure and doped SnO2 nanoparticles is done by SEM analysis. The effect of Pure and Ag - doped SnO2 nanoparticles on the growth of some common food and water poisoning pathogens namely Staphylococcus auerus, Aeronomoushydrophila, Shigellaflexineri and Escherichia Coli is studied. Nano particles tend to absorb on the bacterial surface and dehydrogenation due to respiration process occurs at the cell membrane in bacteria. The studies show enhanced antibacterial activity of Ag - doped SnO2 nanoparticles than pure SnO2 nanoparticles.
