Abstract

Phenylmercury(II) compounds containing Hg-S bonds of the general formulae [PhHgS[S)POGO] G = -CH2C(H)-CH3, -CH2(CH2)3CH2-and -C(CH3)2(CH3)2C- have been prepared by the reaction of PhHgOCOCH3 and the corresponding NH4 salt of O,O'-alkylene dithiophosphoric acids in aqueous ethanol. Their bimetallic derivatives with Hg(II), Cd(II) and Ag(I) salts have also been prepared. The products have been characterized using analytical and spectroscopic (IR and 1H NMR) data. Bimetallic derivatives are formed through the coordination of the sulfur atom of phenylmercury O.O'-alkylene dithiophosphate to the soft metal acceptors.
