Abstract

The In2S3 quantum dots embedded in sodium borosilicate glass matrix was prepared using both sol–gel and atmosphere control methods. According to the results of X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectrum, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and selected area electron diffraction (SAED), In2S3 quantum dots in tetragonal crystal system have formed uniformly in the glass, and the size distribution of these quantum dots generally ranged from 12 to 20nm. The third-order optical nonlinearity of In2S3 quantum dots doped sodium borosilicate glass was investigated by Z-scan technique. The value of χ(3) was estimated to be 1.16×10−12esu at 800nm.
