Abstract

High molecular weight polyamido-arylazole was synthesized from aromatic diamine containing a benzimidazole ring and terephthaloyl chloride by low temperature polycondensation. The polymer with chelate forming properties readily forms intracomplex compounds with variable valency metals. A study was made of the effect of the type of metal on the heat resistance of polymers and it was shown that its addition somewhat reduces heat resistance.
