Abstract

Single‐phase Bi2Fe4O9 is synthesized successfully by the solid‐state reaction technique with FeCl2·6H2O additives. The two optical band gaps, and the iron ion's chemical valence state both decrease with the addition of FeCl2·6H2O, which may be attributed to the decrease in the split energy of iron 3d orbital.
