Abstract

A new-type nitroxide with a bulky 2,4,6-triphenylphenyl- and a 4-substituted aryl-substituents is developted. 4-Phenylphenyl 2,4,6-triphenylphenyl nitroxide was shown to ferromagnetically interact at low temperature (2J/k B = +0.56 K using one dimensional Heisenberg model). On the other hand, 4-bromophenyl 2,4,6-triphenylphenyl nitroxide antiferromagnetically interacted (2J/k B = -3.94 K using one dimensional antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model). The magnetic behavior was analyzed with aid of the X-ray crystal structural anaklysis.
